![]() We took a trolley ride to the Smathers beach area and Casa Marina area where the Waldorf Astoria resort is and it smelled like sewer - on several occasions! That area is plagued by an influx of sargasso seaweed and it stunk everywhere there! Not at Sunset Key - they did a good job of cleaning it every morning and no sewer smell for us :) Granted, the beach is small, but so is the resort and we never had an issue finding a place for us at the beach or pool. Beach/Pool - I think the beach is the best in KW. Honestly, everyone here is about the customer experience and that was such a gift. We loved Thomas, Martyna (and I"m missing the other names) at Flippers and Michael, Rafaela, Anna at Latitudes. ![]() The food across the board was delicious and the drinks were too. Also, they fall over themselves giving you treats at this place - we had Fiji water and Natalie's fresh OJ delivered every day, croissants, quiches, apple turnovers, fruit, yogurt, delivered for breakfast each morning, amazing Nespresso coffee in our room and the pool area had treats every hour it seemed for the kids - popsicles, an ice cream cart, smoothie tastings, you name it. At Latitudes he was able to choose from several appetizers and dinner entrees (we ate there 2x) and at Flippers he also had several options. But the icing on the cake for us was that they tailored our breakfast basket to include GF options each morning that were more than fruit! He had GF donuts, muffins, bagels, yogurt - you name it. Customer Service - My husband has Celiac and I was worried he'd have nothing to eat each day, but the resort is very gluten aware and he always had several options (clearly marked) for lunch and dinner. The boat crew is friendly and happy to see everyone and the ferry boat is always available, so no need to worry about missing the boat. Taking the ferry on our first day was a fun excursion when we arrived in Key West and our kids loved the ferry rides each time we went to KW. The restaurant is open to the general public, but dining guests aren't allowed to wander from what I saw. It's such an amazing location and the entire island is private, so only resort guests and homeowners are allowed on the property. Location - Sunset Key is located on a private island, just a 3 minute ferry ride from Key West, from the Opal Key marina. Here are a few of the reasons I think this place is awesome: 1. ![]() For us, there is no other place we'd stay in Key West but Sunset Key. I'm so glad we gave it a try, and honestly, we would never return to actually stay in Key West. We were hesitant to try Key West because we've heard it's a party scene but gave it a try because Sunset Key Cottages wasn't actually in Key West. We are a family of 5 (3 kids ages 11-6) and stayed in a 3 bedroom Garden View Cottage (Windward). We visited June 14 - 19 and absolutely loved this place. If I could give this resort a higher rating than 5 stars, I would. ![]()
